With summer approaching and more of us thinking about exercising, this edition includes a brief article on steps you can take to reduce the chance of getting injured.

    Prevention of Sports Injuries
    body 1

As more and more of us realize the benefits of exercise and activity, it is imperative to participate and train safely. Although sports-related injuries are not totally preventable, taking relevant precautions can reduce their significance and/or severity. This article briefly introduces a few precautions that may assist in reducing the probability of injury.

    Massaging, the facts.

As respect for massage therapy grows in both the general and medical communities, practitioners are distancing themselves from old stigmas and looking to the future.
Proving the value of massage through controlled placebo trials might be difficult, but few who have experienced it need to be convinced of its benefits. The healing power of touch is well known.

    Skin Brushing

Did you know that your largest organ of elimination is the skin? Every day over a half a kilogram of waste product is released through the skin and it is estimated that around one third of all body impurities are excreted through the skin. In each square centimetre of skin there are up to 100 sweat glands (as well as sebaceous glands, sensory cells, pain and pressure detectors, cold and heat sensors). Dry brushing the skin is a great way of stimulating the skin’s cells and sensors to improve efficiency.
